Love is Blind

A Comedy in Four Acts

To impersonate ourselves is the most demanding role there is.

The idealistic Prince Virgilio has the perfect plan: swap places with Inganno, his overly-ambitious former tutor, and find genuine love. Falling for the peasant Benedetta, he resolves to marry her, but the two must first don layers upon layers of disguise to fool the class-obsessed King.

As the wedding day approaches, the masquerade spirals out of control: Inganno adapts to the role of Prince far too well, and the young lovers must ward off a vengeful Countess, jealous husbands, and a hypocritical Priest with less-than-honourable intentions. What’s more, rumour has it that revolution’s afoot! Fear not: all will be resolved by the wedding day… or will the kingdom mistake performance for reality?

Inspired by Italian opera and Shakespearean comedy, Love is Blind is a fast-paced, self-aware farce that celebrates classical stage comedy and breathes new life into its most beloved conventions.
